Breaking News: Oscar Pistorius not guilty of premeditated murder...

The final phase of the trial of South American athlete popularly known as the blade runner. Court proceedings commenced at 09:30 CAT today with presiding Judge, Thokozile Masipa, launching into what will be the verdict in the long-running saga which began in March this year.

Pistorius is accused of killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, and DStv Channel 199 has been dedicated to the trial for over six months since March 2014, keeping viewers informed of all the latest developments with 24-hour coverage of the trial’s progress.

Already, the final phase of the trial today has been put on hold, the third time that would happen with the judge announcing brief sessions of recess having established so far that the crime is not premeditated murder as claimed by the prosecution counsel. .

The prosecution did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius committed premeditated murder in the Valentine’s Day 2013 killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, Judge Thokozile Masipa said Thursday morning. However, the judge added that it “is clear that his conduct was negligent.”
That comment seems to be an indication that the judge is prepared to find Pistorius guilty of a lesser charge, “culpable homicide.” She will resume delivering her verdict on Friday.
“Culpable homicide,” or manslaughter, can carry anything from a suspended sentence to a long jail term, according to the AFP. On Thursday, the judge explained her reasoning on this charge, applying what she termed “the test of a reasonable man.”
In other words, the judge examined whether it was reasonable for Pistorius to fire four shots through his bathroom door at what he believed was an intruder. Although she appeared to stop short of a ruling on the charge before adjourning court until Friday, Masipa did say Pistorius did not pass this test.
“All the accused had to do was pick up his cell phone to call security,” Masipa said of Pistorius’s reaction. She added that Pistorius could also have “run to the balcony” and called for help. Masipa added that she was “not persuaded that a reasonable person with the accused’s disabilities would have fired four shots” into the home’s small bathroom. Pistorius is a double-amputee.
Pistorius killed Steenkamp about six months after he dazzled the world by running in the Olympics on carbon-fiber blades called “Flex-Foot Cheetahs.” He mastered the springy devices so completely competitors claimed he had an unfair advantage and tried to keep him confined to the Paralympics. So skilled was Pistorius, and so disciplined in his training, that one scientist described him as “a pioneer on the posthuman frontier.”
But the South African double-amputee known as “Blade Runner” for his incredible sprints on the scythe-like prosthetics proved very human indeed.
Pistorius began to learn his fate Thursday, as the judge read through her summary of the testimony of the key witnesses who appeared during 41 days of trial, and explaining what portions she accepts or rejects.
Pistorius, the judge said, was a “very poor witness” who appeared “evasive” on the stand. But she also dismissed the evidence presented by many of the prosecution’s witnesses, and noted that the athlete’s poor performance on the stand doesn’t automatically make him guilty of murder. She then began to explain her interpretation of the evidence presented and address each charge he faces, ruling out murder convictions for the athlete but stopping short of reading her judgement on a lesser homicide charge similar to manslaughter. That process will continue on Friday, when it’s expected that the judge will pronounce a formal verdict for each charge.
But Pistorius doesn’t have to wait to know he’s defeated, perhaps ruined, even if he’s cleared of all charges. Once an international star named the “sexiest” man in South Africa, sought out for endorsements, he is now, in some respects, his country’s O.J. Simpson.
According to the prosecution, Pistorius argued with Steenkamp that night in his home in a gated community in Pretoria. Things got out of hand. She retreated to the bathroom. He fired four shots from his 9mm pistol through the door and killed her. Prosecutors portrayed him as temper-prone, self-absorbed, gun-obsessed egotist who lived life altogether too recklessly. During the trial, he sobbed constantly and vomited as the prosecutor kept describing the bloody details of what happened that night — not the stuff of sports legends.
His own lawyer made him seem even more pathetic — not an iron man, but an anxiety-ridden mess, filled with demons dating back to childhood. Barry Roux described Pistorius as an impulsive, fearful man, terrified of small noises — like a noise in the bathroom — because of an “exaggerated flight response” stemming from the “slow-burning” effect of his disability. All his life — his family had his legs amputated before his first birthday because he was born without fibulas — he was unable to run away from danger, his lawyer said during closing arguments.
As Pistorius and Roux told it, the “Blade Runner” heard noises in the night coming from the bathroom as Steenkamp lay in the bed. Feeling helpless without his prosthetics, he reached for a 9mm pistol under his bed and fired four shots through the bathroom door.  When he realized it was Steenkamp in the bathroom and saw the blood and her body, he screamed in horror — a “blood-curdling” scream, as one witness said — so loud it echoed across the neighborhood.
The prosecution sought to punch holes in Pistorius’s story. Pistorius claimed he screamed, but some neighbors said they heard a woman scream. That was Steenkamp, prosecutors argued. If he was on stumps — close to the floor, rather than attached to his blades — why did ballistics experts determine the bullets were fired downward from above, they asked.
Pistorius said Steenkamp was in bed when he was awakened rather than, say, in the bathroom. Since he had to retrieve his gun from under the bed, how could he have not noticed that she was no longer there, the prosecution asked.
The defense said Pistorius acted in terror and in haste, almost reflexively getting his gun and pulling the trigger.
How could that be, asked prosecutor Gerrie Nel. Look at the steps Pistorius took, Nel said. He found his gun, unholstered it, walked 16 feet, disengaged the safety mechanism and fired. “That, my lady, is pre-planning,” Nel told the judge.
No trial since that of O.J. Simpson’s 20 years ago drew so much global attention. It was reported live and in thousands of live blogs on six continents, every move interpreted and debated. Like the O.J. Simpson story, it exposed not just the lifestyle of a celebrity — the wealth, the beautiful woman, the big house, the flaws, the violence — but made him and his trial a symbol of all things bad.
It was a study in contrast between the man in a wealthy gated community and the poverty of South Africa’s townships. It highlighted the fear of the poor among the rich, fear of crime, racial tension, violence against women, gun violence, the privileges of a wealthy white defendant, and the priorities of the news media and the public.

Boko Haram moves to swap 30 Chibok girls for 18 detained members

chibok girls
There are indications that the Boko Haram has agreed to swap some of the abducted 219 Chibok girls for 18 members.
Nation reports that Boko Haram sent the list of its commanders and the 30 girls to be swapped to a minister, who is also a lawyer, an elder statesman and a key facilitator of peace with the sect, Comrade Shehu Sani, who is also the President of the Civil Rights Congress of Nigeria.
The list, it was learnt, was sent after secret talks between a government delegation and a Boko Haram commander, who is being detained in Kuje Prison in Abuja.
But there was no confirmation of this last night.
According to the sources, the delegation, whose membership was kept under wrap, discussed with the commander, who is simply described as Umar.
One of the sources said: “Some top officials met with Umar about two weeks ago in Kuje Prison to discuss issues connected to the fate of the Chibok girls.
“We heard some inmates sharing this information that the sect might swap the girls with Umar and others. But all the details are still secret because Umar keeps to himself a lot”.But another source said: “The delegation had a fruitful negotiation with Umar, who is one of the highly-rated commanders of Boko Haram. The group assured Umar of a swap and he has been looking forward to it.
“The sect has given a list of 18 of its members to be swapped with the abducted Chibok girls”.
The government has offered to release the 18 key Boko Haram leaders/ members only on the condition that all the Chibok girls will be freed.
“So, technically, the release of 30 girls was unacceptable to the government based on the advice of some security agents”, another source said, adding, “you can see why Nigerians should stop blaming Boko Haram from continuously keeping these girls in captivity. What is of concern now is to get even these 30 girls out to prove to the whole world that they are alive”.

iphone 6 plus vs galaxy note edge new phones in town

PHOTO: A visitor examines a Galaxy Note Edge from Samsung in Berlin on Sept. 5, 2014 and an Apple employee announces the new iPhone 6 Plus at an event in Cupertino, Calif. on Sept. 9, 2014.
iPhone 6 Plus
Is bigger really better? Apple unveiled the iPhone 6 today, which comes in two sizes. The iPhone 6 Plus seems designed to give Samsung, the market leader in giant phones, a run for its money.
The iPhone 6 Plus is 5.5 inches diagonally. It's also thin, measuring just 7.1 mm. The phone comes in three colors: gold, silver and space gray.
Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, introduced a "brand new gesture" for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, called “reachability.” Schiller said a double-touch, “not even a press,” slides the whole display down so you can reach “anything” at the top of the phone, making it a dream for multi-taskers.
The phone also comes with Apple Pay -- Apple's new payment service that could very well be a credit card killer.
The iPhone 6 Plus starts at $299 (16 GB), $399 (64 GB) and $499 (128 GB).
Galaxy Note Edge
While Samsung has stuck with what it does best -- making gigantic smartphones -- the curved screen on its Note Edge appears to be an effort to differentiate it in the crowded smartphone market.
The screen measures 5.7 inches, making it slightly bigger than Apple's new offering.
The right side of the phone's screen folds past the edge, which makes that side essentially frameless. At that curved edge, you can customize a menu bar with different background colors and app orders.
The experience offers more aesthetic value than practical advantages, though the tactile experience may be unique to people who want to quickly tap an app that's set apart from the others.
The phone also comes with a stylus, making it ideal for users who may want the feel of using a pen. Samsung began offering a software developers kit (SDK) for the Edge starting last week so users can come up with curve-worthy features. The phone will be available later this year in "Charcoal Black" and "Frost White."

SUSPECTED EBOLA CASE IN OAU!!

OAU gate

Fear gripped students, parents and staff of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, on Tuesday over a report that a patient at the OAU Health Center was suspected to have Ebola Virus Disease. The patient, our correspondent gathered from sources, is a female student of the university. When our correspondent visited the hospital, it was observed that health officials were disinfecting the surroundings of the medical center.
Our correspondent reported that more concentration was paid on areas where patients sit before being attended to.
It was also gathered that top officials of the hospital held an emergency meeting after testing the patient.
It was learnt that the suspected patient was admitted since Monday.
Though, medical officials in the hospital denied that the suspected student tested positive to EVD, they said the Federal Government Emergency Ebola Team has been contacted.
One of the officials, who preferred to be anonymous because he was not authorised to speak, said the suspected patient had been slated for an intensive examination by the EVD team from Lagos on Wednesday.
Another official claimed that the suspected student had a fever.
The official said there was panic because the patient told them that she came from Port Harcourt.
It will be recalled that Ebola cases had recently been reported in the Rivers State capital.
The official said, “A patient was brought to the health centre and due to the fact that she lives in Port Harcourt, there were fears that it might be Ebola. We have carried out tests on the victim and found that she is suffering from fever. Not satisfied, we pressed further by holding an emergency meeting which ended about five minutes ago.”
When asked why the hospital was disinfecting its surroundings, another official said, “We are only taking preventive measures. To be 100 per cent satisfied, we have sent a letter to the Ebola Emergency Team in Lagos and the team should arrive by tomorrow.”
Efforts to reach officials of the institution on Tuesday proved abortive as they were said to be at the 52nd Matriculation ceremony of the university.

The Rivers state Ministry of Health says the infected sister of Late Doctor Iyke Enamoah has been successfully treated and discharged from the isolation centre.
The sister, Chinyere Enamoah had been infected with the Ebola Virus Disease while caring for his brother.
State Commissioner for Health, Sampson Parker at a media briefing said the successful treatment of Chinyere justifies the effort of the state government to combat the outbreak of the virus.
Parker also disclosed that an eighteen month old baby is currently showing signs of the virus and being tested at the quarantines centre.
“We have successfully treated and discharged our first Ebola patient.
“She was positive and she has now been treated successfully. She is now negative.
“Right now, we have another admission. It is a child, an infant of 18 months has just been admitted. He is currently being tested. When the results are out, we will let you know.
“All hands will be on deck to make sure that we are prepared for any eventuality,” Parker said.
On the resumption of schools as announced by the Federal Government, Parker said Rivers state government was yet to decide on whether the schools will be allowed to open.
The State Commissioner for Health, Sampson Parker led members of the NMA and other health stakeholders to Ahaoda East and West for a routine sensitization programme.

T.B Joshua warns about plane hijack, prophesies about Pope Francis

tb-joshua
The General Overseer of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), T.B. Joshua, on Monday came up with yet another prophecy.
Speaking to his congregation, Joshua said he saw “a very big religious leader”, the one he characterized as a “father” figure respected by millions in different parts of the world.
“I have been praying for him… They should pray for him,” Joshua proceeded, although not specifying which area people should direct their prayer towards… The clergyman I am talking about is the Pope Francis”.

He also claimed he had seen the “Breaking News” about the hijacker, a militant capturing the plane.

“They will attempt to enter a plane. You will hear ‘Breaking News’ of a hijacker inside the plane that carried the plane from its original direction to another direction. We should pray so that it will not just end like that and we learn that there’s a crash“.
The last statement probably referred to the tragedy, which occurred in the United Sates on September 11, 2001, when Al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked planes and crashed them into the towers of World Trade Center in New York.
“This is another big attempt they want to do”.
Last week, he prophesied of a plane crash “in the unstable region near Russia and Ukraine” and urged people to pray for the US President Barack Obama, because the cleric saw him “being rushed to the hospital”.
As for Obama, he said that the country leader would recover. He also spoke about a militant attack against a top official in Southern Africa, and in relation to this called for prayer for Kenya.

Rihanna and Jenny McCarthy: nude photo leak , fake or real?18+

A series of high-profile stars including Jennifer LawrenceRihanna and Jenny McCarthy have fallen victim to one of the biggest celebrity privacy breaches in history, resulting in photographs and videos apparently showing them in the nude being widely circulated on the internet.
The photographs of mainly female celebrities were shared online after an anonymous hacker using the name Tristan posted what was claimed were authentic images on the 4chan website, an online message board used for sharing pictures.
Some of the celebrities targeted immediately said the images were fake, while others confirmed their veracity and said they had been taken in private and had never been shared.
The 4chan website quickly removed the hacker's posts, but a screenshot of the list of hacked celebrities included pop star Avril Lavigne and actorsKirsten Dunst, Aubrey Plaza and Winona Ryder, while experts have warned that more images could emerge over time. Other alleged victims include the models Candice Swanepoel, Cara Delevingne and Kelly Brook, and the TV host Cat Deeley.

A number of photographs, including images of Lawrence, star of The Hunger Games, have been circulating on file-sharing and image-sharing sites. The hacker also apparently posted images of his computer desktop, which included what appeared to be an image of Lawrence.
Lawyers for the actor immediately threatened to prosecute any publication publishing the pictures. A spokesman for Lawrence said: "This is a flagrant violation of privacy. The authorities have been contacted and will prosecute anyone who posts the stolen photos of Jennifer Lawrence."
The actor Mary Elizabeth Winstead confirmed that the photos of her were real and said they had been taken in private with her husband and had been deleted before they were posted by the hacker. She condemned the actions of voyeurs who were continuing to access the images since news of the hack broke.
"To those of you looking at photos I took with my husband years ago in the privacy of our home, hope you feel great about yourselves," she wrote on Twitter. She added: "Knowing those photos were deleted long ago, I can only imagine the creepy effort that went into this. Feeling for everyone who got hacked."
In a statement, the lawyer for model and actor Kate Upton said: "This is obviously an outrageous violation of our client Kate Upton's privacy. We intend to pursue anyone disseminating or duplicating these illegally obtained images to the fullest extent possible."

The American actor and singer Victoria Justice, who was also named in the file, denied any nude photos of her were real in a tweet on Monday, writing: "These so called nudes of me are FAKE people. Let me nip this in the bud right now. *pun intended*."
The gymnast McKayla Maroney wrote that "the fake photos of me are crazy!!", while a spokesman for Ariana Grande said photographs of her were "completely fake".
It remains unclear how the images and videos, which were not publicly available, were accessed by the hacker. One expert, who had seen the files, said the oldest photos date back to December 2011 and the newest from 14 August.
It was initially suggested that Apple's iCloud service could have been compromised to access the images, but experts have said this was unlikely. Independent security expert Graham Cluley told the Guardiansuggested that a hacker could have worked for years to gather information leading to the images, or could have hacked an address book with celebrity emails and then used phishing techniques, where users are tricked into divulging their password by fake emails. "My suspicion is that this isn't an iCloud security flaw as such," he said.
Some security analysts have suggested that an account belonging to Kate Upton's boyfriend could have been hacked, that a Dropbox account could have been hacked, or that a hacker who had been accumulating images for years had their system broken into by another hacker.
Others warned that more images could be released, with the owner of the Twitter account InfoSec Taylor Swift remarking: "Mark my words: Releases of these photos are going to be a slow-burn shitshow for days – probably longer."
The celebrity gossip columnist Perez Hilton initially posted censored and uncensored versions of some of the photographs on his site, but has since removed them. "I acted in haste just to get the post up and didn't really think things through. I'm sorry," he tweeted. Another tweet stated: "Upon further reflection and just sitting with my actions, I don't feel comfortable even keeping the censored photos up. I am removing them."
The Los Angeles police department told the Huffington Post that it had no knowledge of the hacking, while the FBI said it could neither confirm nor deny reports of the attack. Apple has made no comment regarding a possible security breach.
